Sony SRS XE200 review: Pleasant tones and durability
We’re currently reviewing the Sony SRS XE200, one of the brand’s newest Bluetooth speakers. We will discuss what this speaker has to offer and how it performed in this review as a mid-sized speaker.
Sony SRS XE200 review: Design and performance
Three colors are available for the Sony SRS XE200. These include blue, gray and the one we’re currently reviewing, black. It has a diffuser with a linear shape, which somewhat expands the range of sound.

It also includes two passive radiators, one on each side of the speaker. But even though the company has placed panels on each side of the speaker so it can easily stand upright, we believe that affects the bass. It has a pentagon-shaped body with five distinct sides. The body is covered in soft rubber (mostly), but it is very slippery.
Sony provides a rope strap in the box because they are aware of how smooth this material is. The strap also makes it easy to carry, as you can throw it over your bag or hang it on a hook or similar object.

These passive radiators are surrounded by a beautiful fabric mesh, but it attracts a lot of dust. If you have pets, be prepared to frequently wipe animal hair from this material.
As for the button, one feature we particularly appreciate is that it has a mute button. This is because the device has a built-in microphone and it would be useful if you needed to mute it during a phone call or for any other reason. Echo cancellation is another good feature that improves call quality.
The setup and pairing process is fairly simple. If you’re using an Android handset, the speaker supports Google Fast Pair and Bluetooth 5.2. In addition, it has a multi-point connection, which is incredibly convenient and allows you to easily switch between two devices.
The Sony XE200 has a battery life of approximately 16 hours of playback on a full charge. In addition, this audio gadget has support for fast charging via the USB Type-C fast charging port, so charging in just 10 minutes will provide roughly 70 minutes of listening time.
The portable speaker also has an IP67 rating for protection against dust and water, so you can take this handy device pretty much anywhere without worrying about damage.
The Sony XE200 speaker can be connected to other compatible Sony speakers to create party mode while using the Sony Music Center app. The ability to switch between mono and stereo modes when used alone is definitely a really useful option.
In addition, the speaker can only be charged 90 times in battery care mode, which will extend the overall life of the speaker. The EQ can be adjusted with a 3-band equalizer, so if you don’t like how these speakers sound, you can make the necessary adjustments.
Now let’s talk about the sound output quality of the Sony SRS XE200. Mids coming out of the XE200 were decent. The device does a little better in the low-end department, in fact we preferred the lows. The low end doesn’t suffer from that distorted sound and the bass sounds fantastic. Even the high range has pleasant tones. All in all, the XE200 is powerful enough to easily fill a room with the volume of any song.
We have the impression that the substantial rubber parts of the speaker block the output of some sounds. It keeps them from sounding a little better and more open, but we’re not saying they sound terrible; they clearly have extremely good sound quality that could have been better.
Statement
The Sony SRS XE200 is a pretty reliable Bluetooth speaker, as we’ve already mentioned. So in all honesty, the device sounds great and delivers powerful bass that’s pretty fat. It has a really soft, pleasant sound that we think is excellent. The bass is great and the bass and treble sound good, but the mids are a bit muffled with the Sony SRS XE200.
