Is this the ideal smartwatch?
We’ve been playing with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro for a few weeks and this is our in-depth review of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. If you recall, the new Google Wear OS is the main reason why the Galaxy Watch was such a huge success last year. The biggest and most expensive smart watches on the market are currently offered by Apple and Samsung. Samsung Watch works with all Android devices, unlike Apple Watch which only supports iPhone. After using the Watch 5 Pro for over a month, here’s our comprehensive review.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Review: Design
Let’s start with the design part of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro first. Since the company replaced the rotating bezel on the Pro with a digital one, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Pro look identical this time around, and even offer some tactile feedback to simulate the feeling of physical rotation, which is the same. Featuring a raised bezel and recessed display for a sportier look, the Watch 5 Pro is more of a thicker version of the original edition. Since the smartwatch is only available in a 45mm model, it also seemed big since we have small wrists.

The company has also upgraded the sensor architecture at the base of the watch, with a larger contact area and a flatter design for more accurate measurements. With the new 20mm silicone strap mechanism, we no longer have to physically move the item around to suit our needs. The Watch 5 Pro is highly praised for its comfort and fit.

The speaker grill is located at the bottom of the left side, while the right side has two physical buttons and microphones.
Either way, we adored the chunky buckle sports belt. However, as a result, the device does not lie completely flat on the ground.
Instead of the Gorilla Glass DX that was on the previous model, the front now has sapphire glass. It includes a 1.4-inch circular Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 450 x 450 pixels. We have no complaints about the actual screen quality, which is fantastic regardless of screen brightness level, sharpness, viewing angle or colour.
In addition to meeting the military standard 810H for resistance to various adverse weather conditions, the smartwatch is 5ATM and IP68 certified against dust and water damage. And for added durability, it includes a titanium case. Even though we accidentally dropped the Samsung Watch 5 Pro, it held up beautifully throughout use without any major scratches or dents.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Review: Performance
The performance of the Exynos W920 chipset in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has not changed as it is the same chipset that was available in last year’s Galaxy Watches.
Furthermore, given the absence of any other brands releasing watches with Google’s latest wear OS, Samsung has practically held a firm foothold in the WearOS market for over a year. However, that is no longer the case as the widely anticipated Google Pixel Watch has now been made available to consumers.

The Watch 5 Pro comes with built-in Google Assistant support and it works admirably. The experience will improve over time as Samsung has promised to offer Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro users four years of software updates.
With the Galaxy Wearable app, you can create tiles for supported apps like Google Keep and Microsoft Outlook, as well as a variety of features and functions on your wristwatch, including a range of health and fitness-related tiles from Samsung Health.
The only major hardware improvement when it comes to health and fitness tracking is the addition of an IR temperature sensor that works in conjunction with a 3-in-1 bioactive sensor to give consumers a comprehensive view of their health. Even as the ambient temperature changes, the temperature sensor uses infrared technology for more accurate measurements. Unfortunately it has not been activated in India yet. Furthermore, India still does not have access to ECG and blood pressure data. Additionally, you can download the Google Fit app instead of the Samsung Health app.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is also capable of measuring your heart rate, stress level, oxygen level and more. Plus, you can automatically track a ton of different workouts – way more than we’d ever use.
Despite the absence of a temperature sensor, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro’s sleep tracking is much better than its predecessor. It correctly records the times we go to sleep and wake up. In addition, it can provide other unique features by analyzing your sleep patterns, including the ability to import a GPX (GPS Exchange Format) file of your exercise route to automatically provide step-by-step directions. For those who don’t know, GPX stores GPS location information such as maps and routes.
There are other things you can do with this watch, like go to settings and scroll down to sound and vibration. If you scroll down one more time in this section, you will see system sounds. When you turn it on, it will make a gentle ticking sound that is similar to a Rolex watch, something we haven’t seen on any other wearable.
Everyone appreciates a good customizable watch face that matches their personal style, and the Watch 5 Pro has a professional style. Therefore, the customization section will appear if you tap and hold on the watch face, or you can insert a new watch face. In addition to adding a compass to the outer ring, you can customize the hand style, colors, and a few other options on the Pro analog watch face.
Another option to help you tell the time is available under convenience under advanced settings, just below that you can turn on the hourly time so that it makes a little ping sound every hour. Another incredibly unique feature is that tapping the screen with two fingers vibrates. You can instruct the watch to read your notifications by selecting it in advanced settings.
With gestures, you can quickly access your workouts and various exercises with just a flick of the wrist. To do this, go to advanced features, scroll down and tap on Quick Launch. Make sure this option is turned on, because when you do, you can choose what opens with this gesture. So your list of exercise types will instantly open up if you twist your wrist twice. You can also control them remotely from your watch. Your buttons can be customized in the advanced settings.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the sleep section of the health app, you’ll find the option to enable snoring detection, which is one of the most fascinating features of this watch. When it asks you to turn it on, do so, then place the phone next to the bed with the microphone facing you (don’t forget to wear your watch). The following morning, you will be able to view your snoring statistics and playbacks.
You can view your body composition in the same section. Body composition analysis, which calculates body water, muscle fat and skeletal mass, is said to be more accurate in the latest series. The measurement option will be at the bottom of the page if you scroll all the way down. To use it, simply confirm your weight, press both buttons with those two fingers, and stay as steady as you can. You’ll actually get full body composition data in seconds.
Samsung Health trail workouts let you take a hike, record it, and share it with other trail enthusiasts. Plus, if you want to change up your routine or train for a future race, you can download hiking and cycling routes. With clear, detailed routes, you can hike or bike while looking at the trail and not at the map. With the Trackback function that sends you back the way you came, the Galaxy Watch5 Pro makes it easy to return home when the time comes. In the Samsung Health settings, this feature needs to be turned on for cycling or hiking from the settings menu.
You can also connect your fitness and health statistics to the Samsung Health app. It is very cleverly constructed to give you a quick overview of all the facts at a glance, yet is comprehensive enough to give you a wealth of additional information for a deeper understanding.
Phone call quality is also quite good here, and we particularly like the haptic feedback of the Watch 5 Pro. Galaxy Watch 5 Pro battery life meets our standards. The smartwatch regularly lasted us about 5 days on a single charge with continuous heart rate and stress monitoring turned on, which is excellent. It has a 590mAh battery, which is even bigger than its predecessor.
This time, Samsung increased the charging speed from 5W to 10W. So it took about 30 minutes to charge to 50% and a full charge takes about 2 hours.
Statement
So the Samsung Galaxy Watch is a pretty awesome gadget that adds a few significant improvements over its predecessors to further Samsung’s hegemony in the premium Android smartwatch market. With them, you can get the ideal combination of cutting-edge design, a comprehensive selection of health and fitness tracking options, as well as respectable battery life.
With a bolder look and improved durability, the Watch 5 Pro takes things even further. It also adds a few new features that go with the outdoor-adventure vibe of the watch. While we remain doubtful that owners of the Watch 4 series will benefit from the upgrade, it offers the ideal package to convince the casual smartwatch enthusiast to make the switch, which is why the chipset upgrade could be a game-changer.
